Brian O’Hara joined XL Insurance Ltd. as President and Chief Operating Officer - and it’s first employee - at the company’s inception in 1986.

In 1994 he became President and Chief Executive Officer of XL Capital Ltd. During his tenure he has overseen the transition of XL from an excess liability and directors and officers insurer to its present position as a leading global provider of insurance, reinsurance, and financial products and services. With his prudent guidance, XL has strategically grown both through acquisitions and organically to a culturally-diverse organizaion of more than 3,200 employees, with operations in approximately 30 countries; close to $40 billion in assets; shareholders’ equity in excess of $7 billion; and the majority of the world’s largest coporations as customers. He is on the Board of Trustees for the American Institute for Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters (AICPCU). He is a Trustee of The School of Risk Management, Insurance & Actuarial Science at St. John’s University and the Angus Robinson Jr. Memorial Foundation. He is also a member of the Geneva Association and Chairman of the Board of the XL Foundation, Ltd.
